The volume of production at MMC in Kazakhstan in January 2021 amounted to 746.4 billion tenge

The volume of production in the mining and metallurgical industry (MMC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan in January 2021 amounted to 746.4 billion tenge, which in nominal terms is 38.4% higher than the same period in 2020. In the structure of the mining and metallurgical industry, the main share falls on non-ferrous metallurgy – 386.5 billion tenge, followed by the production of ferrous metallurgy-151.4 billion tenge and metal casting-1.2 billion tenge, while in the mining of metals, the main share is occupied by the production of non-ferrous ores – 148.1 billion tenge and followed by the production of iron ores – 69.3 billion tenge.
The IFO "production of metal ores" in January 2021 amounted to 93%. In the structure of metal ore production, the iron ore mining division accounted for 100.8%. The growth was due to an increase in the iron ore FFO by 137.8%. The FFO "production of ores other than iron" decreased to 91.4%. The decrease in the IFI in this sector is observed in the production of " copper ores "-93.3%," copper - zinc ores " - 84.9%," aluminum ores " - 99.9%," gold-bearing ores " - 95.8%.
The IFO "metallurgical production" in January 2021 amounted to 103.1%. Despite the overall positive level, in the structure of metallurgical production, the IFO "ferrous Metallurgy" amounted to 96.9%. The decrease in the IFO was recorded in the production of "cast iron" - 96.9%, "unrefined steel" - 99.5%, "other rods and bars made of non-alloy steel" - 83.9%," pipes of different diameters, hollow seamless profiles made of steel " - 84.9%," ribbed sheets "- 51% and" sandwich panels made of coated steel sheet " -76.8%. While the IFO "non-ferrous metallurgy" was recorded at the level of 106.6%, the growth was due to the positive IFO in the production of "refined silver" - 174.8% and "refined gold" - 130.7%.
In January-December 2020, exports of metallurgical products decreased by 0.5%, amounting to $ 10.0 billion. In the structure of metallurgical products, the volume of exports of ferrous metallurgy decreased by 6.7% compared to the previous year. Exports of non-ferrous metallurgy increased by 2.7% from $ 6.6 billion to $ 6.8 billion. In the structure of exports of metallurgical products, the main volume is accounted for by copper, uranium and ferroalloys. In the value structure, the growth of exports of the metallurgical industry was achieved due to an increase in exports of copper, uranium and flat rolled products. In January-December 2020, the main markets for Kazakhstan's metallurgical products were China (42%), Russia (16%), Turkey (7%) and the United Kingdom (6%).
In January-December 2020, the volume of imports of metallurgical products decreased by 17.3% compared to last year and amounted to 2.7 billion US dollars. The structure of imports of the metallurgical industry in January-December 2020 is dominated by seamless pipes (17%), flat rolled products (14%) and gold (13%). The main suppliers of metallurgical products in Kazakhstan in January-December 2020 are Russia (72%), China (11%), Japan (4%) and Italy (4%).
For 12 months of 2020, the market volume of the mining and metallurgical industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 6.5 billion US dollars, where the share of OTP accounts for 58.3%, and the share of imported products – 41.7%.
The industry is characterized by a high territorial concentration in 3 regions: Karaganda, East Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions. The share of the mining and metallurgical industry in Karaganda is about 36% of the total production in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The share in the other 2 regions of East Kazakhstan region and Pavlodar region is 21% and 13%, respectively.
