The volume of production of light industry products of the Republic of Kazakhstan in January-December 2020 amounted to 128.7 billion tenge, which in nominal terms is 11% higher than the same period in 2019. In the production of light industry products, the main share is accounted for by textile production – 70.8 billion tenge, followed by clothing production – 46.3 billion tenge and the production of leather and related products – 11.6 billion tenge.
The index of the physical volume of production in January-December 2020 was 115%. Growth is observed in all sub-sectors of light industry. IFO of textile production – 104.5%, the growth is due to the growth in the production of cotton fabrics (+59); fabrics made of chemical or staple fibers (+61); other textile products (+30%). The growth of the IFO clothing production – 105.5% mainly due to the growth of women's working clothing by 2.4 times; other working clothing (+72%); T-shirts, T-shirts with shorts, sweatshirts and similar products, knitted (+43%). The growth of the IFO in the production of leather and related products – 231.1% is due to the growth in the production of shoes with leather uppers, except for sports shoes, shoes with a protective metal toe cap and special shoes-by 9 times; fur skins, tanned or tanned (+15%).
Exports of light industry products in January-November 2020 decreased by 23% compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to $ 131.9 million. Main export countries: Russia, China, Latvia.
Imports of light industry products in January-November 2020 amounted to $ 1,562 million, which is 2% lower than the same indicator in 2019. The decline in exports and imports is due to the introduction of quarantine measures in all countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main importing countries are China, Russia, and Turkey.
For 11 months of 2020, the volume of the light industry market in the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 1.7 billion US dollars, where the share of OTP accounts for 8.4%, and the share of imported products – 91.6%.
The industry is characterized by a high territorial concentration in four regions: Shymkent, Almaty, Turkestan and Almaty regions. The share of light industry in Shymkent is about 23% of the total production of the republic. Turkestan region – 14.4%, Almaty region-13.2% and Almaty city-10%.
