In the 5 months of 2021, revenues from export trade proceeds from domestic tanned leather and leather crust from cattle skins reached $ 2.4 million that is 73.3% higher than the same period last year.  
Experts of “Kazakhstan Center for Industry and Export QazIndustry” JSC of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan note tanning and leather processing enterprises are located in 11 regions of the country. In particular, enterprises in the industry are mostly  concentrated in Shymkent (7 enterprises). Manufacturers are also noted in Almaty, Kostanay, Zhambyl, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan regions and in the cities of republican significance Nur-Sultan and Almaty.
Currently on tanning and dressing of leather in Kazakhstan engaged 1 medium-sized enterprise (Almaty Tannery LLP) and 27 small businesses (KazItalKozha LLP, Semey Tannery LLP, KazakhLiderMech LLP, Petropavlovsk Tannery LLP, LLP Taraz Tannery, Turan Skin LLP, Kamshat-Asel LLP, etc.).
The production volume of leather from cattle skins for 6 months of 2021 amounted to 54 million square decimeters, which is 15.2% higher than the same period last year. Domestic leather is purchased in small numbers in the local market by domestic manufacturers of footwear (mainly for military and special footwear) and leather goods (bags, belts), the rest is exported.
Major customers of Kazakh leather were China, India, Italy, Turkey, Ukraine and Spain.
