The Karaganda region occupies a leading position in Kazakhstan as the country's largest industrial region.
Metallurgical enterprises processing metallurgical products were naturally created in the region as a result of mining, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy development. Furthermore, food and light industries, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and non-metallic building materials are developing here.
A large copper and tungsten reserve is found in the region, as are deposits of lead, zinc, iron, manganese, and rare metals.
For the metallurgical industry of the country, Karaganda coal basin is the main supplier of coking coal.
The special economic zone "Saryarka" and industrial zones "Saran", "Qaz Qarbon", as well as the JSC "Social and Entrepreneurial Corporation "Saryarka" are aimed at fostering economic growth and attracting investment to the region.
Over 1,759 billion tenge in investment has been committed to 83 industrial projects until 2027, creating 15.5 thousand jobs.
Mining, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, light industry, pharmaceuticals, woodworking, chemistry, petrochemicals, food, construction, and energy are among the industries that will implement projects.
Karaganda's Industrial Project Pool commissioned 4 projects in 2023, generating up to 500,000 tons of coal chemicals, 72 tons of selenium, 200,000 tons of coal, and 5,000 tons of plastic pipes and products, creating 412 permanent jobs.
