Ipsen buys Sanofi rights to a number of medicines
The company Ipsen reached an agreement with the French Sanofi on the acquisition of rights for five drugs. The deal will amount to 83 million euros (88 million dollars), informs Reuters.
The deal will allow Ipsen to increase the profitability of its product portfolio in the short term. Among the drugs purchased are Prontalgine, an analgesic (paracetamol + codeine), an anticonvulsant drug Buscopan (hyoscine butyl bromide), a laxative Suppositoria Glycerini and cough and flu medications Mucothiol and Mucodyne.
Sanofi is forced to sell part of its assets to obtain permission from European regulators to conduct a deal with Boehringer Ingelheim worth 22.8 billion euros. In the summer of 2016, the companies reached an agreement under which Sanofi will transfer Boehringer Ingelheim its veterinary unit worth 11.4 billion euros in exchange for the over-the-counter business Boehringer Ingelheim, estimated at 6.7 billion euros. Also Boehringer Ingelheim pledged to pay Sanofi 4.7 billion euros.
