The Kazakhstan Center for Industry and Export «QazIndustry» of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan presents an annual digest on the results of the implementation of the State Program of Industrial and Innovative Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2020-2025 (hereinafter-SPIID) in 2020.
The key vectors of the development of the manufacturing industry are labor productivity and export orientation.
Monitoring the performance of key indicators of SPIID in 2020 in terms of regions and sectors showed an increase in the share of manufacturing in GDP from 11.4% in 2018 to 13.1%.
In 2020, the value of the measure for increasing the number of operating enterprises of the manufacturing industry in 1000 economically active population, made up 1.14 times compared to 2018. The total number of enterprises in the processing industry increased to 16,862 units.
The labor productivity of the manufacturing industry in the country amounted to 38.7 thousand US dollars/person, the real growth compared to the same period of 2018 was 109.7%.
In 2020, 1,077.8 billion tenge was invested in the manufacturing industry, which decreased by 13.2% in real terms compared to 2018, and by 164.1 billion tenge in nominal terms.
In 2020, there is an increase in investment compared to 2018 in 7 sectors of the manufacturing industry, such as: chemical industry (4.3 times), pharmaceuticals (2 times), production of wooden products (1.9 times), rubber and plastic (by 70.6%), metallurgy (by 37.8%) tobacco products (by 39.5%) and mechanical engineering (by 14.3%). About 2/3 of the investment volume is directed to the development of enterprises in 2 industries: metallurgical industry (34.5% of all investments) and chemical (28.0%), which, compared to 2018, show an increase of 4.3 times and 37.8%, respectively.
The main flow of investments in 2020 was directed to the development of enterprises: metallurgical industry (372 billion tenge or 34.5% of the total investment in the sector), chemical industry (301.3 billion tenge or 28% of the total investment in the sector), food production (109.0 billion tenge or 10.1%), coke and refined petroleum products (68.0 billion tenge or 6.3%) and other non-metallic mineral products (67.2 billion tenge or 6.2%).
According to the results of 2020, the volume of exports of the manufacturing industry amounted to $15.4 billion and decreased by 2.3% compared to the same period of 2018, reaching 97.7% of the level of 2018. In value terms, the volume of exports, having slightly decreased compared to the same period in 2018 - by $0.3 billion.
