On October 14, 2021, the Kazakh clothing brand Global Nomads, in partnership with Kazakh Tourism and the National Federation of UNESCO Clubs, launched the First open competition of young designers Global Nomads Fashion Awards. It will last until February 10, 2022.
According to Inna Apenko, the initiator of the event, a well–known entrepreneur, founder of the Mimioriki and Global Nomads clothing brands, the main theme of the contest is a modern nomad through the prism of the past, present and future.
"As a brand, we have been exploring the topic of Kazakhstan's country identity for a long time, trying to comprehend the nomadic heritage of our people as a source of strength and inspiration in the world of the digital future.
Countries today compete with their brands and the values behind them, and brands and their creative products are created by us - people!
As part of the competition, we offer young creative guys to join the understanding of the code of the modern nomad and, as a result, create joint collaborative collections reflecting the DNA of Kazakhstan," she notes.
The competition is open to specialists from CIS countries aged 16 to 35+ years: designers, textile artists, graphic designers, digital designers and other masters of the creative industry. Participation is free.
In total, five nominations were announced:
1) Digital fashion;
2)Travel set;
3) Street Style;
4) "T-shirt design";
5) "Accessories and souvenirs".
The brightest and most creative participant will receive the Grand Prix of the competition – one million tenge for training, creation or promotion of their works.
The winner in each of the five nominations will be able to create collaborations with the Global Nomads clothing brand on the terms of participation in the profit from sales. At the same time, the cost of releasing the collection will be borne by the organizer.
Fifteen finalists of the contest will receive an invitation to the final fashion show to present their competitive works.
The qualifying stage will be held in an online format on the project's website globalnomadsawards.com .
Applications will be accepted in two stages:
- sketch part - until December 20;
- the deadline for accepting applications (photos of live samples) is until January 20.
The results of the competition will be announced in February.
Also, all participants will have an educational program with leading experts in the fashion, tourism, and sustainable development industries, which will not only allow them to fulfill the competitive task as accurately as possible, but also strengthen the competencies of project participants both within the profession and in related specialties.
The jury and expert team of the competition included fashion industry gurus: Andrey Burmatikov, international fashion consultant, creative director of the BURMATIKOV for Faberlic clothing line; Alexander Shumsky, President of the National Chamber of Fashion and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia; Ainur Turisbek, a famous Kazakhstani designer; Aigul Zhanserikova, Director of the Almaty College of Decorative and Applied Arts.
"Since the last great migration of peoples, nomadism has become an important driving force of the civilizational process. Humanity developed new spaces, knowledge and culture. Now, having overcome the physical boundaries of reality, digital nomadism has become a continuous global process. Virtual space knows no borders, has no language barriers, and is free from prejudice. Modern design, fashion and music have become a synthetic medium for the cultural journey of generations. This is an unprecedented space for creativity and self-realization, the search for one's identity in the vastness of diversity," says Andrey Burmatikov.
Digital nomads in the XXI century are reviving the lifestyle of ancient nomads at a new level in a situation associated with the rapid development of digital technologies and the formation of an information society.
They choose travel as a search for new meanings, exploring the world, and their nomadic items are compact and convenient, always in personal belongings and used at any time.
As the organizers of the contest explain, the pace of technological progress has reached a level where moving to almost anywhere in the world becomes available and takes relatively little time.
At the same time, the means of transmitting information have also developed to the level where Internet connection is possible from almost anywhere in the world. In this situation, new media are beginning to play a key role.
In this regard, the factors of travelers' behavior are changing, the purpose of the trip is not the impressions themselves, but reflection on them, the ability to communicate with the outside world through text, video and photographic materials. Thus, digital nomads, and modern travelers can undoubtedly be attributed to them, present themselves and in fact create a myth about themselves.
But learning and promotion is impossible without history, heritage. Therefore, we turn to the origins, looking for the meanings and messages of the past, because history is rich in data that contain many important aspects of conscious and environmentally friendly consumption and lifestyle of nomads.
The project was developed taking into account the interests of sustainable development and is aimed at forming a new public consciousness by referring to historical, cultural, spiritual origins and ancestral values.
